Atletico Madrid and Brazilian defender, Filipe Luis, has blasted FIFA for not including Barcelona ace, Lionel Messi, in the shortlist of players for the Best FIFA Men’s Player award.

Luis said that Messi was the right person to be given the award, adding that the award had lost “credibility” following the denial of the Argentine.

Messi, widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest ever players, has won a host of individual accolades during his career.

Messi is not in the running for this year’s award with Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Mohamed Salah in contention instead.

“The award is for the best player in the world,” Luis told Brazilian outlet Globoesporte.

“For me, today, it’s Messi.

“Just like in previous years.

“When he’s not there, it loses credibility.

“It doesn’t matter who wins the World Cup or the Champions League.

“He’s the best.”
