Continued support to Nigeria trails 73rd UN Day (Video)
The United Nations has reiterated its commitment to continued support, coordination and response to humanitarian and other emergencies in Nigeria.
The UN Resident Coordinator, Edward Kallon who represented UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, said this while speaking at a briefing to mark the 73rd UN Day on Wednesday in Abuja.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaR4mY_ejLA]Kallon said that good political and economic governance in Nigeria was essential for the country, the region, Africa and the world, given its size and economic importance.
He also pledged the commitment of UN to advance and implement the humanitarian development and peace Nexus as a preventive measure in Nigeria.
He said the world must pay attention and lend its support to ensure that Nigeria moves into the right development path.
He described the theme of the 2018 UN Day: “Strengthening Partnership, Accelerating Progress for Development and Growth “as significant’’.
Kallon said that the theme reaffirmed UN commitment to support the government and people of Nigeria to make real progress as UN consolidates its development initiatives and vision.
According to him, the UN will continue to work very closely with the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the president on SDGs and other stakeholders to achieve the goals. (NAN)
