Imposition of candidates is no longer fashionable – Ezekwem

Imo State leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, says “the imposition of candidates for elective posts in the state, is no longer a fashionable practice”.
The State PDP Chairman, Chief Charles Babatunde Ezekwem, who stated this while addressing the party faithful in Ikeduru local council area, also reiterated the determination of the party executive in the State to superitend over a free and fair party primaries.
Ezekwem identified imposition of candidates as “the reason behind the poor performances of the party in previous elections especially the governorship elections”.
He not only vowed that “such undemocratic tendencies will not be tolerated by the party in the coming primaries”, but also charged the aspirants to work hard and convince the delegates on the reasons why they should be the preferred candidates.
In his speech, the Senator representing Owerri Senatorial District and a governorship aspirant, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, lauded the efforts of the State Executive ably led by Chief Ezekwem, in repositioning the party for better electoral performances.
He assured the state officers that “the party is home and dry in Ikeduru, and this will manifest in a plentiful harvest in the 2019 general elections”.
Anyanwu boasted that his candidature will collapse other political parties in the state, and reassured the party of his capacity to deliver the PDP, if given the ticket.
Other Speakers at the rally included Senator Chris Anyanwu, Hon. Henry Nwawuba, Mrs. Ijeoma Nwafor, Chief Dennis Okwu, Ambassador Uche Ogbuagu and other House of Assembly aspirants under the party.
Vanguard recalls that they all agreed to work together in the overall interest of the party in the 2019 elections.
