Governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Lagos State, Chief Owolabi Salis, has said that he would be committed to restoring the future of youths in the state if elected governor next year.

Salis told journalists in Lagos yesterday that it was disheartening that Nigerian politicians, especially those of Lagos, usually engage the youths in violence during electioneering, while their children were secured in saner climes or studying overseas. He stressed that Nigerian youths were suffering and lack basic education, health and even access to good food and shelter, adding that when voted in, he would overturn the trend.

“My interest is in alleviating the plight of the less-privileged because 99 per cent of Lagosians are not happy that their common wealth is in the hands of an individual who is using it to advance his own interests.

Salis insisted that governance should be more about what is supposed to be done and not what politicians do these days.He added: “A successful government is that which is able to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor in basic needs of education, housing, transportation, health, food and others. It is not a government that pillages the common wealth and neglects the needy for the interests of a few.

“They are taking the future of our youths by imposing their anointed candidates at the grassroots. If there is fair competition, those they impose cannot make it.” Sadly, the beneficiaries only pay allegiance to their benefactors to the detriment of performance,” he added.

Salis, who is the consensus candidate of Star Alliance, a coalition of over 24 political parties in Lagos, said he was riding on the philosophy of the coalition: Operation Rescue Lagos For The Less Privileged.

Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of Action Democratic Party (ADP), Margaret Inusa, has said that the journey to her emergence as candidate was not easy. The senior pastor of Glorious Life International Church, Jos, and an anchor with Unity FM Radio Station in Jos, described her emergence as victory for all women and schoolgirls in Nigeria who believed that women could never achieve anything. Her words: “This is victory for them. I can assure you that it has never been an easy task, especially when you come out to put your head where men are fighting.

“It has been challenging, but I thank God that finally we are here and trusting God that in 2019, men, women and the youth, we are heading to Little Rayfield (Government House) to change Plateau.”She added that that her government “is going to be the government for the people, by the people and of the people.“
